Decades…o

Here is a fun site to check out This Day in Music Birthday #1.  Just plug in your birthday and see what song was number one on the US, UK or other chart.  It’s very interesting and revealing how the music and culture of the day brings back memories…

decades

[Also not just music, but media see the Decades TV Network]

So #1 song in the US on my Birthday?  (I Can’t Get No Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones.  Pretty telling stuff.  It was a major change in both music and culture.  The Beatles and the Rolling Stones.  The UK music invasion was in fuil swing. Yes, Vinyl records or 8-track cassettes were the only thing you could own at that time.

Moving ahead to when I was 10 – 1975 was a great year.  The number one song was Listen to What the Man Says by Paul McCartney and Wings. I can remember that song well.  Radio played it constantly.  Cassette tapes were making their way into our homes and cars.

1985 – A View to a Kill – Duran Duran – Alternative Music has arrived in mainstream – meets the ultimate media franchise – James Bond.

1995 – Waterfalls – TLC  Don’t go chasing waterfalls… R&B meets Pop… 90’s dance for sure.  This one was sung at the top of the lungs at many of a wedding reception…

2005 – We Belong Together – Mariah Carey.  Not that I’m a big fan of the power ballad, but it was #1 a decade ago…

What’s the best decade for music…  depends on your decade.  For me, Yes definitely the 80’s!!!
