1965… to 2015. It is when the first Generation X children reach age 50.
I like the “Back to the Future” series. Marty McFly takes a DeLorean “time machine” to the Past to fix the Present, then in the second episode, he goes to the Future to fix the Future and finally goes to Past to fix Past, Present and Future.
In “Part II“, released in 1989, the date is October 15, 2015. See 11 Predictions That Back to the Future II Got Right. There were a few things we don’t have (yet!), like hover boards and flying cars, but we do have self-driving cars!
Did you know… 10,000 Baby Boomers retire every single day in America: Baby Boomers Retire. So what’s that mean to us GenX’ers? We are increasingly left in charge. The Millennials (GenY), their time is coming, but not yet! Congrats, Millennials. Now It’s Your Turn to Be Vilified. Mark Zuckerburg and his like are smart, but not experienced. So in 2015, 3,650,000 (more like 4 million) Baby Boomers leave the workforce and we have to replace or optimize. There are not enough of us to “replace” so technology helps us move forward. It doesn’t take a genius to know that the social systems that had been created out of WWII will be strained. Social Security? I tell my Dad to make sure he gets all the financial and medical benefits, because there will be little or none left at my retirement.
So my friends, this is a wake up call. We have to care for both our parents and our children in the next decade. And we must take the wheel. 2015 won’t be easy. The time is now!
