Not Relevant (or is it Irrelevant>?)

“The Government has a secret system…”

If you have seen Person of Interest, Tuesday’s on CBS:  http://www.cbs.com/shows/person_of_interest/

The system determines if you are on the “relevant” list and then continues to track your movements through an elaborate network analysis using all existing connected video feeds.  If you’re marked “not relevant”, the system basically ignores your movements…  Well Generation X’ers, you have been marked “not relevant”… at least the media has determined that from my opinion, we have the Baby Boomers again, retiring and straining the system for Social Security, healthcare, etc.  And on the other side we have the Millenials, just now entering the workforce and seen to be the savior of the system.  What is great about being marked not relevant, you can move about the system untracked.  Our generation is about to become “in charge” and it seems there is very little interest in who we are as a group.  Let’s look a the current 2016 US Presidential field.   Clinton – Baby Boomer, Christie – Baby Boomer, even Rand Paul – Baby Boomer…  Paul Ryan – Hey, there’s a GenX candidate!

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) or a.k.a. “Obamacare” is the law of the land.  It is depending on the Millenials (Generation Y) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millenials to sign up and pay up to help all the Baby Boomers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_boomers, who seem to be the majority of those who are actually signing up…  No mention of the rest of us GenX’ers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_X born between1965 to 1984.  We mostly have careers, seeing retirement ahead 20 years, saving, paying for our kids college, being squeezed between young and old – knowing somehow we are not ever going to see Social Security, Medicare and probably not Obamacare in it’s current form.  At least, I hope not!

So once again art imitates life – fire up Netflix and watch Person of Interest from the beginning.  The characters follow trying to save those seen by the system as relevant, the government sees them as not relevant…  The “Government has a secret system…” is a warning about our government, our society and our technology.  The President said last week refering to the NSA spy program, “Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should.”  That really means, there isn’t anything we can’t do.  The problem is that one branch of our government is now too powerful – the executive branch has tools that is over powering to the other two branches, judicial and legislative branches.

The secret is that we are all relevant.   Our work, life, families, dreams and asperations all very relevant to determining the future.  Your say, your vote, your opinion counts.  I just hope we can save the future in time…
