QUITE A YEAR – 1984. Like me, this was a real coming of age. Late teens, only worry was what are we doing Friday night and what’s my GPA going to look like this semester. 1984 is also a book authored by George Orwell. The book has taken on new meaning, now that we know that we are in the age of constant surveillance, at least on the digital realm. The revelation that NSA has a secret spy program, shouldn’t come to shock anyone. The details, well, releasing classified information isn’t your best career choice…
Read the Kindle version of 1984 here: http://www.amazon.com/1984-ebook/dp/B003JTHWKU/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1370882236&sr=1-1&keywords=1984.
Actually, I’m impressed and a bit in awe of the new NSA data center. http://www.npr.org/2013/06/10/190160772/amid-data-controversy-nsa-builds-its-biggest-data-farm?ft=1&f=1001&sc=tw. I would be disappointed that the US couldn’t out track Google, Amazon, Apple, WalMart. You don’t have any privacy expectations working with these companies, why would you think you were getting privacy over the Internet or the mobile networks??? When you clicked the ACCEPT box at Verizon, did you read what rights you gave up? No, you just clicked it to get your new smartphone! We are all participating. Willingly. I am so thankful the real 1984 wasn’t captured via digits that can be read and assembled by massive databases! Here’s to another entry in the database. Good, think I used my Google Gmail account to create this WordPress blog. See I participated…
